Alcaeus (poet)

Alcaeus (Alkaios) of Mytilene (c. 620 BCE-6th century BCE), Greek lyric poet who supposedly invented the Alcaic verse; he was an older contemporary and an alleged lover of Sappho, with whom he may have exchanged poems.
